Hank Beukema lives in Pomona, NY and is 57 years old. He lives near the Hudson River in New York State.... Having only written seriously for the last few years, the published works are few and limited to internet magazines including The Lonestar Webstation Music News [where he wrote a monthly column for two years], The Flyin Shoes Review [England], The Insurgent Country Website [Germany], Vapour Trails [Isle of Wight] and LA's Dufus Journal....

He often writes under the pseudonym of Rev J Alfred Buckman [being a preacher with a heart o' gold but a head full o' sin] and often writes about his friend Ralph, a polar bear that lives on the Hudson River... Having outlived his 18 year old son and his wife, he tends to leave his whole heart on the page for all to see....

She came upstairs
by Hank Beukema


She came upstairs and found him
sitting in the rocker just
looking out the window at a hawk
flying over the yard and
beyond that to the river.
He seemed sad.
She thought of a rhyme...
Eighty two and nothing left to do.
Did he have regrets?
Were they his own or for his son?
Were they because he had no grandchildren?
Were they because his friends kept dying?

Or was it just a peaceful moment after breakfast
and nothing much was wrong?

She knew.
She shared the same life.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning in March
looking down at the Hudson River.

Nothing much was wrong...
