Edward was born Charles Edward Pickersgill in Glasgow, Scotland, on October 11, 1944. In the summer of 1948 he moved with his parents and younger brother Alan to Egham, Surrey in the south of England. Brothers Ron and James were born at least geographically English. The photo is Edward at 4 years of age. Later, in Canada, Edward grew older and danced a variety of dances.
In 1969, while teaching highschool in Lachine, Quebec, Edward founded a small literary magazine called Alive. In the 1970s he founded a small poetry quarterly called Germination. Both have been gone for a long time now but hopefully this new electronic Germination this new Poetics will put down some roots, grow some wings, and learn how to mix some metaphors...
EDWARD PICKERSGILL
Is not an end
24 February 2009
nights come
and nights go
and life goes
on between
and then
at the stroke
of a moment
silence falls
in the halls of
hospital gowns
nights come
and nights go
and life goes
on between
and eyes flutter
and words stutter
and smiles lift
hearts all round
for this stroke
of a moment
is not an end
for this stroke
of a moment
is not an end
let memories be
nights come
and nights go
and life goes
on between
